Congrats to new Black Belts and Special HQ practice Friday 3/9

First off, a heartfelt congratulations to our new First Degree Black Belts: Fia, Antonio, Amon-Ra, and Jordan. "1 DAN" also means "first step", and we hope that you see your Black Belt as the first step along the path of mastery.

Coming up later this week, the Headmaster has announced a special Headquarters practice this Friday, March 9th. It'll be at Bay Ridge Prep's Lower School (8101 Ridge Blvd, Brooklyn), starting at 7pm (60-90 minute long class). Standard Headquarters practice pricing applies ($20/children, $25/adults, pay at door), no preregistration is available.

Modified Schedule and Children's Tournament, Saturday 3/3

Due to the Children's Tournament on Saturday, March 3 we are announcing a modified schedule:

 

  • The noon Open class has been moved to run concurrently with the 9:30am Youth Class – there is no class at noon
  • All other classes are scheduled as normal

And, as a quick reminder, we encourage all students 16 and younger to sign up for the Children's tournament. It's an excellent opportunity to practice the art under the rigors of competition. The event starts at noon (doors open at 11:30am) on Saturday, March 3 at 8101 Ridge Boulevard in Brooklyn. You can register online and save versus registering day-of, even if you pay day-of.

Due to the Black Belt Winter Trip to the Mountains, we are announcing a modified schedule:

 

  • The Atlantic Avenue Studio is closed, all classes for Saturday, February 17 are cancelled

Registration is still open for the Children's Tournament. The tournament is on Saturday, March 3, at noon (doors at 11:30am), at 8101 Ridge Boulevard, Brooklyn. You can register online here, and save $15 for pre-registering, even if you pay at the door.

Children's Tournament Registration Open (event is 3/3)

The Children's Tournament registration is now available online! The event is on Saturday, March 3, starting at noon (doors open 11:30am) at the Bay Ridge Prep Lower School Gym, 8101 Ridge Boulevard, Brooklyn NY. We strongly encourage all eligible (age 16 and younger) students to compete in the tournament. It's an excellent opportunity to meet the rest of the organization, practice under the rigors of competition, and have fun. If you register online, you will save $15 over registering day-of, even if you wait to pay at the event!

As a small reminder, if any Black Belts want to join us for our trip to Winter Camp (2/16-18), please contact us ASAP to ensure we can accommodate.

    Thanks and upcoming events

    We would like to thank every student and family member who came to Sunday's promotion tests. Over 30 students earned new belts this weekend, which would not have been possible without each and every one of you. The Headmaster remains very impressed with our school. The special practice was also a great success with a record number of students practicing with the Headmaster and starting their Black Belt Season.

    Additionally, we'd like to let you know about the following upcoming events:

     

    • Black Belt Winter Camp will be during Presidents Weekend (Friday, February 16 through Sunday, February 18). We're arranging a trip up, contact us for more details.
    • The Children's Tournament and Junior Black Belt Test will be Saturday, March 3 at noon in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Registration will open soon, and we'll be sure to let you know when it is.

    Full Agenda for Sunday's Belt Tests (1/28)

    For Sunday's Belt Tests and Special Practice, we have the following agenda at the Atlantic Avenue Studio:

     

    • 12 noon: High Belt Test. For all students who have been announced for a High Belt test (High White, High Yellow, High Green, High Purple). Event will be approximately one hour long.
    • 2 pm: Belt Test with our special guest, Headmaster Michael Dealy, PhD. This event will also be roughly an hour long.
    • 3 pm: Special Practice with the Headmaster for all Brown and Black Belts. All Black Belt Candidates are especially encouraged to attend. This event will also be about an hour long.

    Mid Year Promotion Test and Black/Brown Belt Special Practice with the Headmaster, Sun. 1/28

    We are very excited to announce the Mid-Year Promotion Test and the Special Practice for Brown and Black Belts on Sunday, January 28 at the Atlantic Avenue Studio with our special guest, Headmaster Dr. Michael Dealy. The Test will be at 2pm, and the Special Practice will immediately follow at 3pm. While we encourage all Black and Brown Belts to attend the Special Practice, a special invitation is extended for all Black Belt Candidates expecting to test in 2018 to start their Black Belt Season.
